Located between the Kizu River and the Uji River that flows through Yawata City, the "Back Split Embankment" is planted with about 220 Somei Yoshino cherry trees and is known as one of the most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Kansai.
The cherry blossoms, which began blooming on the 4nd of this month, four days earlier than last year, are in bloom for seven minutes as of the 22th, but many people such as families were visiting to enjoy cherry blossom viewing.
The cherry blossoms arch around the 25.1-kilometer promenade, which is known as the "Cherry Blossom Tunnel," and visitors enjoyed eating and taking pictures with leisure sheets spread.
Every year, the embankment was open free of charge, but according to the "Back Split Levee Sakura Festival Executive Committee", 4 yen of cooperation money is collected this year to dispose of garbage and preserve cherry blossoms during the season.
A 100-year-old man visiting with his family from Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City, said, "I come to see it with my children every year, and it is very beautiful, and I would like to visit again when it is in full bloom," while a 44-year-old boy from Hirakata City, Osaka, said, "It was beautiful with a lot of cherry blossoms in bloom."
